What gets in the way of our being able to relax fully — into love, into meditation, into Life itself?

The need for control is a familiar part of human behavior. Perhaps we’ve trusted someone and been disappointed or deceived, and have become more cautious as a result. We plan ahead, anticipate problems, and try to reduce uncertainty. But when things don’t go as expected, our response is often to become more controlling, even when that creates additional stress.

We also develop fixed ideas about who we are, what we’re capable of, and how we should behave — often without realizing how much they influence our lives.

What happens when we stop trying to control our experience and relax into what is happening?

Letting go doesn’t mean becoming passive or giving up responsibility.

Five Meditations on Letting Go

In this course, Maneesha introduces five meditation techniques from Osho. Each explores a different aspect of letting go — from our tendency to reject certain feelings to the ways we separate ourselves from others.

01
Look Lovingly at an Object

Give your full attention to a flower or another ordinary object, without wanting anything from it or trying to change it.

02
Include Everything in Your Being

Instead of trying to get rid of thoughts, feelings, or physical sensations, practice including everything you experience, without judging or rejecting it.

03
Feel the Peace in Your Heart

Relax the body and bring your attention to the heart area, exploring a sense of peace that doesn’t depend on what’s happening around you.

04
Imagine Spirit Within and Without

Use imagination to explore the usual distinction between yourself and your surroundings, and experience a sense of connection with the world around you.

05
Become Each Being

Shift your attention away from yourself and toward another person, a tree, or something in nature, experimenting with what it means to experience life from another perspective.

Much of our tension comes not from what is happening, but from our resistance to it.
Through these meditations, we can experience the difference between trying to control life and cooperating with it.
