Everything in life is changing. Our bodies change, thoughts and feelings come and go, and yet we tend to think of death as something separate — something that will happen one day in the future.

This weekly course offers a meditative way to explore death and dying as part of this same process of change and letting go.

Life is always changing

Life is in constant flux. Through meditation, deep relaxation, discussion and sharing, we will practise watching our changing physical selves, our thoughts and our feelings, without getting so caught up in them.
And as we watch what is constantly changing, we can begin to experience the still, silent centre within ourselves.

Practicing letting go

Letting go is something we can explore while we are alive.
Through meditation and the practice of conscious letting go, we can become more familiar with what it means to release rather than hold on. In this way, dying doesn’t have to be something we encounter completely unprepared. It can begin to feel like a natural transition rather than something separate from life.

Becoming more at ease with death

As we become more at ease with our own dying, some of the fear and misunderstanding around death can begin to dissolve.
And this can change not only how we view dying, but also how we experience living. When we recognise that life is constantly changing and does not last forever, we can value it more deeply as the precious gift it is.
Being more at ease with our own dying can also help us to be there for someone else — a parent, friend or client — through sickness and dying, without so much of our own fear getting in the way.
